Been living in Darwin now for the last 8 months and I've gotta say, it grows on you. That might just be fungal infection growing between my toes from the extreme heat and humidity, but some part of Darwin definitely grows on you nonetheless.

I'm a pilot. Now, I have said that many times before so it's nothing new, but what I mean to say is that I have finished my contract period and I've been checked to line for the last four months. What this means is that now the person solely responsible for all my screwups is me; the person solely responsible for ensuring I don't bust CAO48 flight and duty time limitations is me; and the person solely responsible for doing well and keeping my job is me.

The flipside of this is that I get to fly to all sorts of interesting and exciting places (sarcasm) with intriguing and intelligent people (again, for the most part, sarcasm)! AND every 4-8 months I get the checked by the Chief Pilot for proficiency. Had my first prof cx a couple of weeks ago and, to put it gently, I got raped. To put it not so gently, he beant me over the desk, removed my pants and entered me forcibly from behind...WITHOUT MY CONSENT.

Still, it wasn't all bad. I passed, and live to fly another day.

Anyways, I've noticed that it seems to be fashionable to pop in and update one's journal every six months, so that's what I decided to do. I've had two 0500 starts which ended up as 13 hour days in a row now (technically illegal I think?) so I'm going to go home, eat subway, have a sleep and come back in the arvo for my third flight of the day.

I love being a pilot.
